Why gender matters in sleep research.

Transcript

Are we finally starting to study men and women differently when it comes to circadian disruption in conditions like ADHD or autism? And does it matter?

All of our pre-clinical research is pointing to really strong differences between male and female research animals, and we think the same is true for humans. There was a tendency — at first, all the research was just done on males — and obviously that's wrong. We have to change that, to incorporate both men and women in our research design, because we do see consistent differences in both the nature of the problem and the best interventions to help people get a good night's sleep.
